Co2 Canisters
Someone told me that I could use CO2 from paintball canisters to humanely kill rodents for snake food. Now, I thought this was the perfect way... easy and will make the rats just fall asleep. How would you get the CO2 from the canister out so it will just leak out and fill the air slowly, that is how your supposed to do it right? My brother says that he doesn’t think that you can get the CO2 out like that and if you poke a whole in it, it will just blow up. Can someone please let me know how please? And if this would work? Thanks!

Re: Co2 Canisters
It's been a while since i owned a paintball canister....so here's my best shot at this.
If you push in the pin at the top, it will not blow up the canister. This is acctually what allows the co2 out of the canister. Do you ever watch the guys fill up your co2 canister? they put a hose on it. That hose on it has a pin that pushes the other pin (someone please correct me if i am wrong)...the co2 then travels through that hose and into the co2 canister. You want to do the opposite of that, by attaching a hose which runs into your tank, or rubbermaid, or whatever you use....screw the hose on and the co2 will leak into the hose and into the execution unit (hehe..i like that.....execution unit)
Hope this helps.

Re: Co2 Canisters
I dont know if that would work, but sounds like a good idea. The only way i can think of to get the Co2 out slowly is to buy and on/off valve that most paintball stores will sell and install for you. Let me know if it works!

you don't want to push the pin in on the co2 tank with your fingers.
with all that pressure it would be almost impossible, plus that stuff stinks and will freeze your hand.

Re: Co2 Canisters
Thanks guys for the info. I am waiting for a reply from the person that told me about it to see how they do it. I will let you know once I get the reply because they made it seem really easy. They said......
I just put all my rodents in a 10g tank, brake the tab on the canister, put it in the tank and cover it with a piece of glass.Works well!

Re: Co2 Canisters
I just looked at my brothers paintball gun and he has the parts on it (like all paintball guns must have) to do this. it works just as a hose. All I basically need is something to screw into the top of the tank that will push in the pin and let air out like the paint ball gun already has.

Re: Co2 Canisters
I think that you need to be careful with that stuff. Some people will admit that it is more humane then other forms of killing prey but remember, the CO2 will displace the oxygen and basically suffocate the animal. They do fall asleep but only because they basically pass out because there is no air to breathe. I know it is a lot more of a challenge to kill a mouse/rat with a pipe across the back of the neck (or other forms of killing quickley) but I believe that it is better because at least the animal is killed instantly and not slowly suffocated.

No, I don't think they don't sufficate it's the anesthesia in the co2 that makes them fall asleep. I'm not sure if I'm wording that right but it has something to do with anesthesia. Is that like the same stuff that doctors use? Lol.
