    The Big Squeeze

Anyone catch that on Animal Planet this evening? Pretty interesting stuff. Had a lot of BIIIG snakes and a lot of keepers and their survival stories after the snake mistook them for food.

They all survived by putting hot water, liquor, or rubbing alcohol in the snakes mouth to irritate it. One guy bent the tail backwards and that made the snake release its grip.

I think I saw that before or something like it. The part about the bending the snake's tail made me remember seeing a story about that somewhere. I love that kind of stuff. Hopefully they show it again, in case it was a new one that I missed. I used to like to watch Venom E.R. too but, don't know if it's still on (haven't seen it in a while)

    Venom ER is cool too.

I know there's a post around here with a picture of a snake eating an antelope....well that picture came from the video they showed...it was AWESOME!

they also showed a constrictor under X-Ray as he consumed a rabbit. You could see his jaws separating, the rabbit going inside it...and they did a day by day progression. 4 days after eating it, the bones were almost completely broken down.

What amazing creatures we've invested in.....wowee

Nate, majority of those people were attacked because they did something stupid .Lets see one handled a chinchilla or rabbit then entered snakes enclosure .I am sure they replayed it because of snakes on a plane being on at the shows .Perfect examples of stupid things not to do BEFORE you try to handle your snake though .

Hey thanks, I was just bored out of my mind, now the sweet snake show is on hehe!

Umm. They said this guy could not cut a snake w/ a machete, but he did break flesh when he bit it. hehe

    Re: The Big Squeeze

I saw it at 8:00 or 9:00 ET yesterday. It was a good show. All about SFEs, like not holding a cold mouse in your warm hand when offering it to a BRB. That one guy was pretty careless when he held his chinchilla for hours and then went to change his 16' female burm's water. His friend poured liquor on its mouth and it let go. Then there was the zoo keeper who was mistaken for the rabbit. He had a 'hot water' hose and that made the snake release its grip. It was cool how they tested the pressure exerted by a 6' burm as it constricted a f/t rabbit. About 6 PSI. They assummed that a 12' burm @ 6 PSI would put about 1000 pounds of pressure on an animal. They noted that that is like have a horse sitting on you. All in all, it was a very informative show and now I know how to prevent accidents when my burm gets bigger .
