New BP on the way/Naming Input
Greetings, all. My name's Chris, and we will soon be bringing a new Ball Python into our home. Our 8-year old daughter was the catalyst, and between her and I we were able to convince my wife of the benefits of owning a snake. Of course, she says her agreement is conditional on us getting her a tortoise . . .
Anyway, with the new snake on the way I wondering if anyone has any input on naming it. We'd like to go with something mildly indigenous (west african in etymology), but I'm having a very difficult time tracking down much more than baby names on the internet, and most West African dialects seem to use very pragmatic naming conventions, with meanings like "sixth child", "this one won't die", or "problems in chidlbirth" (how'd you like to be stuck with one of those?). Does anyone have any sources or input in this area?
Thanks in advance, and I'm sure I'll have a LOT more questions as time goes by.
Chris

Re: New BP on the way/Naming Input
Welcome!
I always like to wait until I get the creature home, and then just go with what name "fits" them. I have tried naming them before they arrive and it always changes by the time I have watched them for a little bit!
Good luck with your new arrival; where are you getting it from?

We're going to be getting from a local, very reputable pet store in Newberg, OR, known as Critter Cabana. They seem to be very knowledgable and their animals are treated excellently.
I'll probably take your advice on the name, too. Thanks.

Welcome to BPNet and congrats to you and your daughter on getting your first BP soon. Here's a fun link for naming pets. You can search by gender, national origin, meaning of name, etc.

When it comes, name it on it's personality. That's how mine got it's name because he's fat and lazy.
