think we have our caging plans made...
What we plan to do, is build some shelving, and use those tanks with the sliding lids for snake cages. I toyed with the idea of a rubbermaid rack, but I have this issue with having the heatpads touching plastic; see, we leave home often for hours at a time and sometimes overnight with the business (have a security system and cameras, but that's not the issue) but I am terrified of some plastic melting and starting a fire, and I cannot be convinced that this wouldn't happen, so I want cages with glass bottoms for my personal peace of mind. Also I have been using tanks for my BPs for over 3 years and have things down to a science in regards to humidity, shedding and all that stuff.
So we plan on using a bunch of nice pine lumber that our landlord had milled and no longer needs; I want the tanks to be uniform and nicely "stacked" maybe 3 above/below each other for a total of 6 spaces (only have 5 BPs, but it'd be a good excuse to get another one later! My BCI, I plan on keeping in his custom cage w/ the sliding doors, in a seperate room; too scared about IBD risks. I was also thinking of having one long tank at the bottom to use for breeding purposes..
so how does this all sound? I plan on using the 40-long tanks that are the same footprint as a 55g; already have my female in there and it is plenty space.

If you regulate the pad with a t-stat of some kind the pad will only get to 90-95 which will not melt plastic.

Jen,did you read my response about the switching the male from cage to cage and not the females to the males cage? If not,it would be best to place the male with the females(i do this) as its alot less stressfull on the females.Read my response on your other thread for the rest.I think your idea for the shelves sounds great to me .

Re: think we have our caging plans made...
Yeah, I think I will just make all of the cages the same size then. It does make sense to put the male into the different cages.
See, I am well aware that BPs do not make ideal display animals. But I have had no problems using tanks thus far; with the temps in our home and by using UTHs, I never have problems with temperature fluctuations. But I also want to showcase my artistic abilities by painting lifelike backgrounds for the tanks; I can invision what it'll look like. If I had wanted a large amount of snakes, I probably would have gone with a rubbermaid rack type system, but for now I like tanks and don't want to change a good thing, but at the same time I hate having different-sized tanks all over the house and want something uniform looking!
