    Can I hold him?

I have owned my baby boy Kole now for about 1 week and 1 day. Can I hold him now or should I wait longer? I have only held him like twice during the week, once to replace his substrate with forest bark(replacing aspen) and once before I fed him last friday. The last time I attempted to hold him was 48 hours after he ate.. and the little dork bit me! (I was attempting to feed a blood p and another normal ball so maybe I smelled like mice though)

    Re: Can I hold him?

if hes had a week to acclimate to his new home then it should be okay to start brief handling sessions with him. if hes a biter then move very slowly when approaching him and pick him up from behind his head about 2/3 the way down his body. keep handling times brief for a while only 5 minutes every other day until he is used to you. after that u can handle him for a little longer.

If he seems a little jumpy or stressed put him back in his enclosure as to not stress him to much.

    Re: Can I hold him?

He seemed exactly like that sunday night when he bit me then I picked him up for about 5 minutes. Very jumpy! (maybe I failed to mention) that 5 days out of that week he was with another ball in the same enclosure. So this is now the 4th is by himself in his own home.

Yea thats there way to tell you leave me alone lol.Since you did not catch his signs he bit you,and he made sure you understood him then lol.I have an adult female that she just does not want to be messed with sometimes and since i understand the signs i put her back in her enclosure. Each snake has a differant personality and you soon will learn your snakes signs to tell you what he wants or does not like .

You can go by his mid section to determine if he is hungry or not.If you still can see a little lumpy area then its ok to wait a day or two.
