For anyone who went to college in Maryland...

Has anyone here went to college in Maryland? I've been thinking of going to University of Memphis, but I think its best for me to stay here.

Anyways, if you have, did you have to live in a dorm? If you did, did they let you bring herps? I have a plan just incase I have to live in a dorm, but I was just wondering.

How old are you? You dont have to live in a dorm, you could rent a house.

    goodness you're thinking ahead huh?

If you're unsure of what you want to do for a career, it's always a good idea to go to a local community college for a year, maybe 2, and live at home...get your basics out of the way and live for free with the parents.

Re: For anyone who went to college in Maryland...

DEFINATLY go to a community college.
pros- smaller classes, cheaper -usually-, and a less imposing atmosphere.
cons- probably no dorm keg parties. or fat naked guys running down the halls....wait, was this pros or cons?

anyways, you still have four + years to worry about it and trust me, you'll defiantly change your mind.
biologist > zoologist > large animal vet > journalist > make up artist > illustrator > web designer > english professor > philosopher > vet > exotic vet > etc. those are what i've all wanted to be at one point or another in my life.
LOL and a test told me i should be one of those people that take photos of casualties of war. that, or a cow inseminator. GENIUS.

have fun! and study your butt off in highschool. you just do NOT realize how important elementary school was until high school and how much you'd wish you'd study'd harder in high school.

and hey! if you do go to memphis, you'll be way close to alabama! *high five*
as far as pets- usually fish are about as far as it goes. heck, auburn dorms wont even allow cinder blocks. Oo
its better to mooch off ma' and pa' as long as you can and get a roomie to split an apartment with imo.

Re: For anyone who went to college in Maryland...

Yup, graduated from the University of MD - College Park. Of course that was a couple of years ago. I'm in Memphis now! (sorry I found it very amusing)

Yes I did live in the dorm for two years, and lived off campus the second two. Unfortunately I do not believe ANY pets are allowed on campus. Of course having said that, I kept a ferret. He's was especially fun trying to lick the water off the top of my feet when I came back from the shower. Of course I cool roommate, so it wasn't a problem.

The school you study at needs to have an educational program you are interested in, and you need to get the grades now to get into it. So location is not a major issue, at least it wasn't for me.

Dorms typically allow fish in tanks of ten gallons or less, that's it.

There are advantages and disadvantages to commuting, but the best advantage is price. The disadvantages really have to do with how far away you are from campus. It's easier to meet more people and study if you live on or very near to campus.

I would advise you to keep your options open. Community colleges are usually a good route as they often have partnerships with the state schools in which classes will transfer over. Class size is smaller, and depending on your personality, you're less in danger of partying too much.

Also, if you're going to work at all while you're taking classes, look into getting a job on campus. With some of the on campus jobs, you can study if you're not busy. I worked in the computer labs and the helpdesk when I was in college.

Btw, I went to college in OK and IL, not MD.
