    Eating in the hide...

I keep reading about all of these snakes (on this site) who like to drag there food into there hide to finish it off. I was told not to feed my snake inside of its cage? Now is it safe to remove the snake from its cage, have my fiance hold it, place the mouse in the cage, wash my hand then return the snake to its cage or will this cause problems?

You can just get a big box...take your little fella out of the cage, and put him in the box, and then you can proceed with feeding. once he's done, completely done...and he's licking his lips...put him back in his cage

    Re: Eating in the hide...

It was believed, and I think disproven, that bp's will be trained to think that every time you open your cage, it's feeding time. There's been a number of people around here that have not had that problem, me for instance. I fed inside the cage as well as in a box and noticed no change in aggressive behavior when the cage was opened.

Are you feeding live or p/k? If live, just drop him in and watch the feeding, make sure everything goes OK. If p/k...I would usually remove the hide (if he was in the hide) to wake him up...and then dangle the mouse/rat in front of him..and he would strike and eat...when he was done i would carefully scoot him over, put his hide back in where it was, and then he'll normally find his way back.

I can't help but use Adam (8 bp) as an example. He feeds hundreds of snakes ever week inside their enclosure and As far as I know, no problems have come about.

Kyle, will you be at the show in Daytona this weekend? You will be able to personally ask Adam of 8 ball pythons. Any other questions you have, i guarantee he will give you one of the best answers.

    Re: Eating in the hide...

lol not odd at this event. there's atleast 10-15 people from this site that have confirmed their attendance this evening.

I see a lot of people that bring their reptile to events. I don't think there is a rule against it.
