I'm just trying to get some info on breeding criteria. weights, age, when you know the female is actually ready to breed. i looked on here and couldn't com eup with some guidlines. i have a python book that says a female will develope a lump in the midsection during ovulation, is this correct? and is it very noticable. im not worried about breeding right now b/c my bp is only around 2 or so. shes still my baby. i would have done a google search but i trust in you guys a whole lot more then joe whats his name that rights a random article for a school paper. thank you kindly.

I've never bred so I can't answer from experience. But what I've read says that it isn't necessarily with age but size. Males are usually ready around 2 and a half feet and females at 3 (roughly two years). But even guaging by size you must be careful because power feeding is a large problem, causing the snake to grow faster than maturity. I haven't seen anything about a lump forming so I can't offer any knowledge there. Sorry if this isn't any help.

males are ready at 6-800 grams and females at 1500. a good rule to go by for females is 500 grams per foot. a long and skinny 1500 gram female wont be a good breeder.

Males are usually ready at 1 year old, females at 3. The males should be at least 600 grams, but preferably 1000. Females should be at least 1500 grams, or 500 grams per foot. If you try to breed a female too soon, she will probably end up with a small clutch, slug out (bad eggs), or become egg bound and potentially die.

If you want to increase your chances with your female, you can wait until she is at least 2000 grams and you'll probably have a nice sized clutch as well. One of my big gals that recently laid weighed 2,600 grams and produced 8 good eggs and one slug.
