What did you do to treat for mites?? I've heard of people wiping the snake down with oil to kill the mites...and that caused the scales the flake off one by one. Messy and icky, but didn't seem to adversely affect the snakes.

When they go into shed, the first thing you'll usually notice is the eyes clouding up. They eyes will clear again and it'll still be another couple days before it actually sheds.

Having gotten rid of the visible mites is not the end of your problem though. Mites lay eggs you can't see and you have to kill those off as well. The only thing I know of that is completely successful at doing this without harming your snake (IF you follow the directions exactly!) is Provent-a-Mite (PAM). You can sometimes find it at a local petstore, but most people have to order it online.

yeah excellent advice Judy I would only add to that by saying make sure the enclosure is treated for mites well and move the snake to a clean one whilst treating the one it was originally housed in.
