Nobody likes me today!
Well it's been quite the day with our collection. During normal watering/cage checks I managed to tick off three of the snakes.
Rionach whose never been anything but easy natured made a very credible attempt to nail me. Other than a hide in my hand blocking her, she'd have managed a nice nip the little witch LOL.
Malachi who is always a bit hissy, decided to find his boy boy snake voice today. Holy wow but the hair on my arms literally went up! He's in blue so I understand he's not in a spiffy mood but boy can he hiss now that he's growing up!
So on to Rauri the big BCI. Mike had him out while I removed the urates from his enclosure when he just swung around and targeted me with his mouth wide open! A bit shocking - though he didn't follow through or anything.
Geesh what's up....the snakes don't like me today I'm wondering if it's possible that I smelled funny to them. I had just been sitting on the couch cuddling with our new puppy before I started my snake rounds. I wonder if the puppy smell set them off?

That has never been my experience.
IMHO, it's most likely related to barometric pressure in your area.

Re: Nobody likes me today!
Wow Adam I never thought of that and our weather did just change drastically from very hot and muggy to very cool and windy! Amazing! Thanks Adam!
I never would have thought about that but will be more mindful of weather changes affecting the snakes. (The man knows snakes! )

They are more in tune to atmospheric pressure than people realize.

Ahhh you're never a menace! Thanks though Adam, sharing your experience is what makes you such a valued part of this great online community. I should have thought about weather as it has changed so much today but I forget that even though they now live in a nice little controlled snake room, they can still sense things so far beyond what we can. So much to learn about these amazing creatures....and what a blast learning it!

Wow what a day for you! I've had days like that too.
Why would weather change make them crabby?

Oh, that's right ... I've ceased and desisted.

Just speculation, but have you ever been up in an airplane as the pressure changes ... sometimes until you "pop" it can be quite uncomfortable ... I'm not saying balls go through the same thing when pressure systems move into and out of a region, but it could be something similar. They just know.

Thanks for that observation Adam. The same thing happened to me a few days ago, and my wife thought the same thing as Jo. She said I must have some smell on me, but it may very well have been the weather.
