    Mutts or what?

Okay we are looking for a nice puppy for little Mikey to grow up with. So I look of course at the humane societies (not much in the way of puppies) and then I look in the local paper. What in the heck is going on??? Tons of puppies that are some purebred or other crossed with some other purebred or other and they want hundreds of dollars for them!

Okay maybe I'm a redneck but if it isn't a AKA recognized breed...it's a mutt! Lord but what is the world coming to when folks will pay hundreds of dollars because somebody's purebred got knocked up by the dog down the road who just happens to be another purebred of some sort or other.

Well off on my continuing search for a nice puppy for the family that won't cost me $400.00!

Edit: I do know there are purebred dogs that are not yet recognized by the AKC but that's a whole different situation.

Jo.. my co-workers and I at the groom shop snicker every time we hear someone come in with their $600 'purebred' goldendoodle. Wow.. it's a MUTT people. You can not show it, so why are you paying $600?!!

They are called 'designer breeds'.. but they are nothing but mutts. It's ridiculous.

    Re: Mutts or what?

Apparently here in Toledo, OH the concept of a nice mixed breed family puppy has become big business and yes April, they apparently consider them "special" (folks it's a mutt...nice dog but a mixed breed just the same!)

    Re: Mutts or what?

Yes we have a man that argued with me that his, GET THIS - 5,000.00 Pugle was not a mutt & he had papers from the petstore to prove it. All the papers said was your pet is hereby registered by the PET REGISTRY. Meaning you paid 10 bucks to have a piece of CRAP to frame. serious breeders go to great lengths to produce quality, ONLY to have some idiot with 2 purebred dogs of different breeds make more money for the pets they send out to the unsuspecting public.

I see nothing wrong with selling a mutt for 100 or even 150 if all the medical such as shots spay/nuet. worming etc. is taken care of. It's the same price for routine medical for a mutt as it is for a purebred. But the outrageous prices people are getting on mix breeds in my eyes is outright stealing and should be dealt with as such.:cens0r:

If there is a particular breed you like, punch it in online. You could possibly get a rescued dog for a decent adoption price. Usally all the medical is up to date thru the rescue groups. Remember tha just because a dog is referred to as a rescue doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. I have seen great dogs come in for any number of reasons, moving, someone allergic, etc.

    Good luck with your hunt!!

    Re: Mutts or what?

i myself like adult dogs but enjoy having a puppy who you can train your way and all that jazz.

Ive had german shepard mixes and pure breed german shepards. Love them both to death. I grew up side by side with a pure breed german shepard, we have baby pictures together .

My mothers anniversary gift from my father was Max our female GS and then after she passed on Bear was our male gs/mix which we got free cause the owner kept him locked in a room all day(and you know how bad that can be).

I so badly want another german shepard dog, I'll probably never pay $600 for one but I always keep my eye open at the humane societys and in the paper for mutts that come close or pure breeds that need a new home.

Also I am nuts about maincoons and fancy cats....both cats I've had in the last 8 years were the most beautiful cats ive ever seen with the most adorable personalities ever...got for $20!!! long shiny soft furr, maincoon in apperance, green eyes, huge paws...just precious!!!

Look at what kind of dog would be good for your lifestyle and your family, keep your eye open..be picky! its worth it! thats how i found Mikey my handsome 6 toed cat!!

    Re: Mutts or what?

Actually we've been one of the private shelters here in Toledo and they advised us considering Mikey's young age to go with a puppy, due to the fact that no matter how they temperment test them they can never be truly sure how an adult dog will adjust to a boisterous young kid or whether it was ever exposed to children. Unfortunately they don't get many puppies in so I'm keeping in contact with them and still watching the paper. I check our local craigslist daily....no puppies so far though. Poor Mikey has taken to having an invisible puppy....kinda cute but geesh...I never thought finding a puppy would be this hard!
