    UTH's

can you safely remove a uth you already have on a tank and put it on a different one, or will it end up shorting out or something and become dangerous to the snake?

    Re: UTH's

Yes, you can "re-use" them. I've moved a couple from tank to tank without any problems. They don't, as Joe mentioned, stick as well after the first time, so I always tape them in place with foil tape.

I would recommend Flexwatt, its the best, and cheapest UTH out there. You can buy it prewired from MGReptiles,
    http://www.mgreptiles.com/flexwatt.html .

It doesn't have sticky stuff on it, so you have to use foil tape, but to move it, all you have to do is peel the tape off.

can you use a single thermostat in order to regulate 2 bins at the same temp at the same time, or do I need 2 thermostats , one for each tank?

    Re: UTH's

If you're talking about a rack or stack of identical cages (boaphiles, Animal Plastics cages, etc) that are all set up the same, then yes, you can use one thermostat. I built myself a 4ftx2ftx6ft wood enclosure that is divided into 3 4x2x2 cages (plus storage space) and I run all three off of the same t-stat. I put the temp probe in the middle one, I get the average temp that way. there is a couple degree variation, but only a couple degrees, in the top and bottom cages.
For two completely seperate tanks, theoretically, if they were side by side, set up the same, I suppose you could just use one T-stat, but I would not feel comfortable doing it that way. T-stats aren't that expensive.

    Re: UTH's

basically I have two long sterilite containers, 66 quart flat (under the bed storage) with a split top so you can open one side or the other, and it has wheels on it. I was thinking about just stacking them on top of each other, as they are stackable, and then putting them on something similar to a free standing tv stand. possibly on top of a dresser...havent got that part quite worked out as of yet.

guess I should just get 2 thermostats then, huh?

    Re: UTH's

I think you'd be able to get away with one t-stat. I'm assuming you'd tape or stick the uth directly to the bottom of each tub? If so, I'd drill a small hole in the tub, just big enough to fit the probe thru, then tape the probe right in the middle of the uth and seal the hole with some silicone. That way they're still stackable. You'll have to monitor the temp in the other tub closely to make sure they heat the same.

    Re: UTH's

I have two of those as well, and have them set up with 2ft of 11" flexwatt on the cool side(set on Herpstat 2 at 84), and the warm side has 1 foot of 11" flexwatt(set on the HS 2 at 95). You can't get away with only using 1 piece of flexwatt for the warm side. It won't get the temps where you need them to be unless your room is 82 degrees or so. My room varies from 76-78 and that is what I need to maintain proper floor and ambient temps.

You could always go with 2 Johnson Controls T-Stats and be done with it. Just so the set ups are exactly the same, you're good to go.

I'll try and take a picture of the heating arrangement today since I have to clean tubs tonight.

    Re: UTH's

thank you. I'm kinda cranky that I finally got Nag's glass tank set perfect, and now I have to play around with these bins. *grumble*
any suggestions on number of holes in the bin and does location of the holes matter? and do I really need the flexwatt on both sides of the tank if I can maintain temps without it?
