One word....PROVENT-A-MITE! Those who have used it swear by it! but U have to follow directions PRECISELY!
Good luck in getting rid of the creepy-crawlies!! Have U changed the bedding to newspaper or paper towels? That will help when U have to clean so they don't have as many crevices to hide in.
Check out some of the other threads about mites. LOTS of good information there!
Best of luck!

Re: vernon has mites
provent a mite rocks!!!
i used it to spray all my enclosures (6 snakes) and everyone is mite free now. sooooooo simple to use. just take the enclosure outside after removing all the hides, water dishes and plants/wood etc.
spray the container and the substrate. don't forget to do the lid.
let it dry. (very toxic fumes so do it outside with the windows to the house closed)
once dry... replace the hides, water dish etc which has all been soaked in bleach water (or baked if it's wood) and put your snake back in.
the dry residue of the provent a mite (or PAM) will kill all the mites for 30 days... which covers all the mites and eggs which hatch... so the life cycle is stopped completely.
so simple it's almost rediculous!

That will work for temporary relief, but will not kill the eggs that the mites have already laid ... in about 3 weeks, you'll be back to where you started.
Provent -a- Mite, made by Pro Products (www.pro-products.com) is hands down the best way to treat snake mites and prevent them from coming back. Give Bob Pound at Pro Products a call and he'll hook you up ... Bob ROCKS!

Prevent A Mite is a gift from the snake gods
It worked wonders with my troop when they had mites. I wish you luck in exterminating those horrific beasties.

Re: vernon has mites
ok. i will try provent a mite. it is expensive retail here in toronto. i will check online prices + shipping. are mites detrimental to health (siginificantly?). it is ok that he not be treated immediately right? i mean, not that i am procrastinating or anything, but to get the provent-a-mite stuff and schedule a major cleaning may take a few days to a week.
thanks

Re: vernon has mites
I would recommend getting it done asap. You can soak (with a drop of soap in the water to break the water tension) to kill the mites, until the Provent-a-mite arrives. Just remember those little things are sucking the blood from your snake, so it can impact their health if left for a long time. I think a week would be ok, if your snake is in good health otherwise.
