Photo shop?
Which Photo editor do you use to edit picture, I assume Photo Shop is most popular. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something simple to eliminate backgrounds from certain pics for my website. Such as taking a picture of a snake in a tub and just having the snake itself.
Is Photo Shop user friendly and which version should I get?
Thanks

Re: Photo shop?
Photoshop is the king of raster image editing. It also is a hoooooooooooooooge application and not cheap. Rick and I have been using Photoshop over 15 years and we still surprise each other with stuff the other didn't know about. ("Wait?! How did you do that?!" )
However, Adobe has a fix for this: Photoshop Elements. Elements has a lot of the power of full Photoshop put into easy to use wizards for a much cheaper price. I've messed with it a bit on a friend's computer and she whips around in it and does pretty good. For an experienced full Photoshop user, Elements is frustrating because "stuff" is missing. But the price tag of Photoshop puts it absolutely beyond your reach and/or you really don't want to get that much into advanced editing, I'd definitely recommend you check out Elements...and DEFINITELY over any other raster image editor.
Adobe is the king of their domain; it is useless to resist. =D

Re: Photo shop?
I use PhotoImpact by Ulead. Been using it for years and years. It's a ton less expensive than Photoshop, and from my personal experience wtih both, I find PhotoImpact to be a much more intuitive and user-friendly program.

Photoshop 7 is the full version, 3 releases ago. Two releases ago, Adobe created a bundle of their applications and gave them the same blanket version; this version was called Creative Suite or Adobe CS. The latest version is Adobe CS2 (although the individual applications are still known by their "old" versioning, so the latest version of Photoshop is referred to both as Photoshop CS2 as well as version 9 - good and confusing, huh?).
This is Photoshop Elements: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/

Re: Photo shop?
I use Photoshop 7, but that Photoshop Elements sounds like a sweet deal.

It's great for doing quick photo edits and "I just need this done but I do not have forever to spend learning how to do it" stuff...but for the kind of art you do, Sheree, it may not have enough tools.
There's certainly more info on Adobe's website (above link) and you may be able to download a trial, I'm not sure...but I would recommend current full Photoshop users try it before you buy because it doesn't have everything that you may desperately miss.

Re: Photo shop?
Well, yeah, I need all the fancy bells and whistles, lol! But it sounds like for what Ssscales needs, something simple for backgrounds and whatnot, Elements'd be the better deal.
