    Question First BP

Hi everyone. I just got my first snake ever (ball python) a week ago. It's a yearling, i think, cause it's only 22'' long and about an 1.5" thickest diameter. Things are going great for now. Already fed it it's first live mouse. I'm new with this so any advice or tips would be great. Btw, does anyone know how to tell if you have a male or female?

    Welcome!!!

Check out our caresheet and make sure everything is right. http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=52
And to figure out if it is a male or female you need to get it popped or probed by a PROFFESIONAL, such as an experienced reptile vet or breeder.

    Re: First BP

Congrats on your new bp and first snake. I adore them.

I would advise you to find a good herp vet. Have a good checkup and fecal done, and if you want have it sexed at the same time. Having a healthy snake can make your first snake experience a truely wonderful one.

Congrats on your first BP. If you have any questions after you've read through the caresheet, feel free to ask. We also have some wonderful threads on BP's and their care in our Husbandry forum that should be of great help to you during the first months of getting to know these wonderful snakes.

Welcome!!!! I'm a newbie myself. We have had our little boy 3 weeks now. We didn't handle him the first week to let him settle in, we handled him twice the second week (had to go out of town on family business) then when we got back he had started to shed, so no handling now for probably another week. Arrrrrgh!! I'm trying to be patient, but its not my strong point. Good luck with you little one and hopefully much better timing than has happened with us!!
