Well for all we do a fair bit of complaining about pet stores, I figure give credit where credit is due.
Mike and I were in for our first visit to one of Toledo's Petco stores (the one on Monroe if any of you are from the area) and were very pleased. The store was spotless, every creature in it was in beautiful shape and the staff were helpful and seemed fairly knowledgeable. I spoke with the staff member working in the area that had the lizards and snakes and she mentioned that she's required to do an hourly check on all her live stock. The caging was very nice for a pet store, appropriate hides, clean water, humidity and temp gauges that were showing decent ranges, no feces or old sheds laying about and information posted on each species with basic care needs listed. Quite impressive.
They were using hides that were backless for a lot of the herps so that they could be in a hide and feel secure yet be seen by the buying public. Thought this was a very good compromise all around.
I purchased some f/t pinkie/fuzzie mice for Emi the milksnake and again was very impressed by their freezer setup and the good quality of the prey items as well as the packaging to store them at home in...the price per item was a bit higher but not much and I don't mind paying a few cents more for higher quality.
I'm not sure what our other pet stores here are like since I haven't had a chance to check them out but at least this Petco was doing things nicely and I made sure to say so to the staff there.
