Snake Bite
Well, it was just a matter of time! I've officially been initiated! LOL
Had the big girl, Sarah out and decided to let her "stretch her legs" on the floor of the living room. Boy, she moved fast across the floor, and when I reached for the back end of her body to pull her back from a nice dark area she spied, she turned around and nailed me on my hand. Quick strike and release, and tried to take off again.
Luckily I had her tub opened and managed to "wrastle" her back into her tub, hissing the whole time. Calm sweet Sarah gone mad!
I'm sure she was just frightened and viewed me as a predator when I grabbed her, but once she was in that mode - she did not turn off, had to hold her out from my body while she continued to hiss and strike at me as I set her into her tub and she quickly retreated into her hide.
About 10 minutes after she settled, I did take her out again, but didn't let her loose on the floor. I didn't want her to connect being all mean and grumpy with keeping me away. I held her about five more minutes, gently stroking her and then put her back - no aggression at that time.
I was expecting a bite one day - most likely from Skye - just wasn't expecting my first bite to be from my biggest! Gotta respect that attitude!

Re: Snake Bite
It has to happen eventually to everyone (I assume). I still havent been bitten unless you count a hatchling gnawing on my finger.

Re: Snake Bite
Yeah, she's been so docile every other time I've held her, this was the first time I let her crawl around, not on me. If she acted that way with her previous owner that might explain the "too much to handle" comment when he surrendered her.
I'm cool with it, and respect that she has boundaries that I need to pay attention to!

Re: Snake Bite
Wow..That doesn't seem like it would qualify as too much to handle. Only my Boas get upset when you try to tell them where to go...

Yeah, but for someone who wanted a calm snake - not one that was going to "turn on them" unexpectedly - then they might deem them "mean" and get rid of them. I prefer to say she's got "spunk"!

Re: Snake Bite
Hah, Karl's breaking - he's definitely breaking! He just called to let me know he was on his way home and I told him that Sarah bit me. He said "Sarah - is that MY snake?" (he named her).
I'm just thrilled he's referring to her as his snake - he's definitely getting hooked now! LOL

I learned that lesson well with Ody. You just have to retrain yourself. O_O
Little yearling bites feel like papercuts, but gosh darnit, it does a number on your emotions. O_O
