shedding humidity
Hi I have a just got a Royal Python, on Thursday when I got him he had the blue tinge and today his eyes are very cloudy so I added a large shallow water bowl to the hot end of his acrylic viv and the humidity has gone upto 78% from 50%.
Can the humidity get too high and how long should I maintain this level for? Here is a pic I took before putting him in his new home.

Re: shedding humidity
He looks like a real cutie! And welcome to BP.net!! :
It is possible for humiity to be TOO high, but for the few days of the shedding cycle, high humidity should be fine. I wouldn't let it get over 80% though. You might try shifting the water bowl so that not so much of it is resting over the heat source...and/or increase the ventilation a bit. The thing you should watch out for most is wet substrate. So long as the substrate remains dry, you should be fine.
As soon as the snake finishes shedding, drop the humidity back towards 50%.

Re: shedding humidity
Thanks JLC for the quick reply. I have moved the water bowl as suggested, it went up to 80% have increased ventilation too and it has stabilised at 76%.

Re: shedding humidity
Between 50-60% during most times, 70-80% during shed times will help shedding along quite well. The main thing you have to be careful of, like Judy said, is wet and especially MOLDY substrate. Mold is NOT good... so its good to keep the substrate dry.
Good luck!
