Humidifier help
I went and set up a humidifier like the one in the DIY section. However it will only work with warm water. Once the water cools off it doesnt work. Am I doing something wrong or do these just not work well? I even tried to put a couple of sponges in there to try and help.( off the hermit crabb association site)

Re: Humidifier help
How big an enclosure are you working with?
And how much a difference is there (temp and resulting humidty)?

Re: Humidifier help
50g, It raises ~5-8% with warm water. Is that what you wanted to know?

Re: Humidifier help
Yep.
There was another thread with similar results. I dont think that setup could service more than a 91qt sterilite or a 20G tank. You'd need a significantly bigger everything. Give me a sec and I will track down the thread.

(EDIT: I'll get that DIY updated to reflect probable range of function so as not to have folks jump through them hoops)

Re: Humidifier help
Thats cool. I think I am going to scrap it. I will just have to mist a little more often. Where are you at in WV? I was raised in Vienna. Small world.

Keep us updated on how it's going for ya!
We're up in Fairmont but have folks all over - mostly around Summersville and Huntington. Was nice to move here after being burnt out from a lifetime of metropolii! How you like NM?

Re: Humidifier help
I pulled it out about an hour ago. More of a hassle than it was worth.
I am in the Air Force at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque NM. I like the area, but the driving leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Humidifier help
Rick had an email conversation with the guy who invented the Herpstat, asking if he was going to ever add a humidity control to it. He said that after he builds the "Herpstat Pro", the next model will have a humidity controller (I guess so you could hook up one of those misting machines), so like available maybe in a year or so...
I think we're gonna hold out with just manual misting until something like a Herpstat with a humidity controller comes along. =)
