    My bp finally ate!!!

I've had my bp for a good 2 months and the lil stinker would never eat no matter what I tried. I mean I tried live and then even f/t but it refused to touch them. I even tried mice and rats and nothing. Well 2 weeks ago I treated it for ticks cuz there were a few on him with prevent a mite and low and behold a week later it shed and took a large poo for the first time. Last night I put a mouse in just to see if it would eat(live) and finally an hour later it was gone and just a buldge remained in the tummy.

you did watch till he ate it right? you never want to leave a live rodent with a snake without supervision. the rodent could harm or even kill your snake, so please dont leave it with live mice/rats when unattended.

    Re: My bp finally ate!!!

I got it from some guy selling it. He claimed he was a breeder but who really knows. Last time I tried to watch my snake ate it just hid in the corner so its not like I can sit and watch it the whole time. It was a small mouse and I checked on it frequently through out that hour. After I get it eating regurlary I will move up to rats but then I will sit in the room with it till I know the rat is dead and gone. I know your not supposed to leave a snake with a live prey but my snake is picky and wont unles in a dark room covered and no noise at all. I had to get it to eat also cuz it was starting to look like it lost some weight but I'm not sure if it had lost any.

I used to watch all the time, but I know Kashmire well enough and know his hunting "preference" and it is to do so without an audience. So, I know that I can safely leave a live mouse with him for about 1/2 an hour and if he's not eaten in that time, I remove it.

I just listen for the tell-tale "thud" and know that he's captured his prey. He's very efficient at killing his prey.

You have to know your animals.

    Re: My bp finally ate!!!

I know the snakes eating habbits Ive tryed several times to get it to eat the first time when I was there watching it he just killed it and hit it agenst the cage till its body cracked open then left it. Then I tryed F/T and it wouldnt touch it at all. So I finaly gave it a live pray and left it alone but I could hear if it was scuffling and if it was I would have pulled the mouse out. And sure enuf it ate the thing. With out a singel scratch. This mouse was a little more than a inch and a half and didnt do anything but run in a circle.
