What do you make of this?
So we have had all the debates about whether multiple BPs should be kept together. I'm not here to start another. I believe they are solitary and should be kept apart and I think most would agree. So I found it a bit shocking when I read the transcript from the last KS chat with Kevin (NERD). Did I misread this?
Gailyn: Do bp's enjoy living together (i.e. more than one in a cage)? Or is it better to always house them separate? Should you let the female keep the eggs or incubate?
KevNERD: Do balls enjoy living together...
KevNERD: I think adults do...
KevNERD: they may feel safer when grouped...
KevNERD: I don't think they are stupid so they must experience boredom...
Gailyn: Really? Just provide extra hides then...
KevNERD: anything to break up their day helps..
KevNERD: So i would say yes!
KevNERD: next
KevNERD: Yes, extra hides will allow them the space they may need...
KevNERD: next

Re: What do you make of this?
I'm not sure what to make of it Jamie. Was there any other context to this particular question as far as any special circumstances that would allow for adult (or for that matter any age) bp living together other than for breeding purposes?

He mentioned adults... and wasn't asked about feeding.... I would think feeding them together would be bad....
yeah i have no clue I always heard it was a bad idea.

That was the entire line of questioning. I really didn't know what to make of it. That's why I posted it here. Not to cause problems but to get a better idea of the motivation behind the answer.

Why don't you email him for clarisication? That transcript makes no sense the way it reads.

Re: What do you make of this?
Yeah, I read that on the transcript too, and just scratched my head. It didn't make a lot of sense to me either when I read it (as in, I'm surprised to see that he recommended it for adults).

Re: What do you make of this?
Does KevNERD = Kevin McCurley of NERD? If so, I'm sure in his book he says solo in a cage...but yeah, kinda weird...
0.1 ball python (Cleo), 0.1 surinam bcc (Carmen)
1.0 sunglow motley corn (Jenson), 1.0 albino burmese (Lourdes)
1.0 cat (Nicky), some mooses and ratters, 1.0 hubby (Rick)

Re: What do you make of this?
I don't think I've ever seen Kevin post here...although that doesn't mean he never has. Better chance though, of Kara seeing this and weighing in. If anyone can, she can shed some light on Kevin's thought process there.
It does seem to go against the "accepted practice"....but there have been a number of practices that were the "only" way to do things and have since been revised and relegated to the "whatever works for you" category...such as feeding frozen/thawed, or feeding an animal in a separate enclosure.
That being said...he seems a bit flippant about the whole thing and it makes me wonder if he was attempting to be sarcastic or humorous somehow and it just doesn't come across in a few, brief, typed lines.

I hope to find out exactly what he meant. I would think that a live chat where people are asking serious questions wouldn't be the place to be flippant but rather to answer the questions in a helpful way.
