? about a disinfectant

The school I teach at uses a disinfectant called Dimension III. It is bactericidal, Virucidal, fungicidal, mildewcidal...you get the point. Anyway I currently use chlorhexadine, but wanted to see if this is comparable and safe. They use it on everything they disinfect and told me its completely safe. Just wanted to get others opinions. Thanks

My understanding is that Dimension III is a heavy soapy solution good for cutting oily surfaces or cleaning floors .... might be difficult to rinse out of snake cages.

What did you find in the kitchen to eat Adam?

I tried to find the MSDS online for it but couldn't. I found Dimension II, manufactured by Butcher's , however. If it is the same thing or just a newer version of the same thing it is a dual quaternary type disinfectant, which means it has two types of amonium chloride in it, some type of cleaner(detergent) and in this case, alcohol too. Household bleach works in a similar manner to amonium chlorides. I should think it would be fine, but I would rinse it after use, as it may leave a sticky residue. I also have no idea what amonium chloride compounds do to reptiles, but most household disinfectants (like Mr Clean, Lysol, etc. also have them.


As a side note, to my knowledge, there is no disinfectant on the market that is guaranteed effective unless you allow it to dwell on the surface you are cleaning for 10 minutes.

Wow, thanks for the info. The active ingredients are:

didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride
n-alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammounium chloride

Apparaently our janitors spray this on desks to clean up blood and other bodily secretions and just wipe it off.

Turkey, baby swiss, and bacon heated for a couple of seconds in the mic ... then lettuce, mayo, salt and pepper on a oven warmed Kiser roll .... it's good!

It does have the two types as you can see in the previous post. It would be interesting to find knowledge on the effects of ammonium chloride and reptiles.

I think I err on cautions side and stick with whats been working, though.
