    First feed :D

A little late to post but my new little girl ate her first meal with me last week! Having corns I am used to dangling the pinks for them to gobble or if I'm in a rush, leaving them on a "plate" for them to eat at their leisure. Either way works great and their fantastic feeders. I got ready to feed Breena by letting the rat pup thaw above her enclosure for an hour then heated that little guy up and got ready to do the "mouse dance" while she seemed interested she simply wandered away! I was about to have a heart attack! I left it on top of her hide overnight and *poof* it was gone by morning!

The bright side: I didn't jump like a frightened school girl my first feed time out and of course she ate, she's just a little shy I guess!

maybe I'm missing something...but if you're rat pup was frozen solid, it would have needed much more than an hour to thaw out. It is imperative that the F/T food we feed our snakes is fully thawed, or the snake can be badly injured. I leave mine out for 8-10 hours to completely thaw, then heat them and feed.

I think you missed where she said she heated it after she let it sit out for an hour. I'm sure it was fine. Sometimes you get a snake that won't feed unless it's left out. I have two like that, and it's kind of a pain because sometimes they won't eat and you just have to cross your fingers. Those two wouldn't eat for me on Sunday but I tried again last night and they both ate. Go figure.

I think 8 to 10 hours is overkill myself. I put my in water, and let them thaw an hour for rat pups and small rats only take an hour or two. I'm sure the pup was full thawed. She's not new to f/t, so don't worry.

Congrats on the feed again! Ha Ha, I knew before she posted. Ok, I'm silly today. Actually am I ever not? I'm waiting for the 'wet my pants' thread over the feedings when she gets bigger. LOL!

Oh congrats on the successful first feeding Wendy!

Yep, one day you'll go to offer a nice warm prey item and WHUMMMMMMP! Some of them amaze me with their aggressiveness but I love it!

that 8-10 hours is just convenient for me...I put out the mice on Fridays before I leave for work, and feed when I get home....easier than putting them in water for me. Everyone has there own way, and as long as we have healthy and feeding snakes..it's the right way!

That makes sense. I'm glad that works for you. I always take mine out before I start dinner. Funny how the snakes get first priority. Of course if I don't do it first, I always forget.
