    Very Important Heating Questions

i have a T3 and the warm side is just fine but i was wondering

1.If i put a sheet of metal ontop of the Heating Coil (in the tank under the carpet) would that spread the heat better? or would it just mess up the temps?

    2. on the cold side i have a heat lamp and its KILLING the humidity. Can i use a regular UTH (the zoomed reptitherm thingys) instead? or would they melt the bottom of the T3? also i have it in two sizes the 10 gallon and the 40 gallon? (its longer) which should i use?

All I can say is if the heating pad is hot enough to melt the cage.. it's too hot to be anywhere near your snake. Get a t-stat for your UTH, and use that to help with your humidity.

    Re: Very Important Heating Questions

i didnt think about that. i already have a tstat but if im gonna use the pad instead of the light im gonna need another one. whats my best bet on a newer tstat? i have the low end zoomed one. i think im gonna go for a better one. maybe the Herpstat. i dont wanteither the ranco/johnson cause i want proportional and the helix is a little too highpriced for me. im already streching for the herpstat price.

If you're on a budget, ranco or johnson are great. If you have more money you can't go wrong with helix or a herpstat.

Talk to Vaughn (kavmon) ... the Herpstat that he bought had to be sent back ... not sure of the details, but I'm sure he can fill you in?

    Re: Very Important Heating Questions

i had one failure with a herpstat, i have both helix and herpstats. the herpstat was repaired and sent back promptly by dion at spyder robotics (the guy who makes them). around a week turn around time, so customer service was good. none the less that problem left me a little worried. i will/have bought all helix since then with no problems. emailed several large breeders using helix for 10+ yrs. with no problems. i have not had any other problems with the other herpstats but my vote is for helix (time tested)
