Re: convincing my mom (mothers, please read)

Still living at home, I also am finding myself in that situation. She knows that I want to start a breeding program, but she is quite afraid of snakes. I actually was quite pleased she let me keep two in her house, so I can't really push the issue (free rent ) But like myself, just talk to her and have a good reason on why you think you need to purchase more snakes. I've told her to look at it as an investment and extra income for myself.

I stand now with a 1.1 pair of normal BPs but as soon as I get the A okay things will be moving along. I've slowly gotten her to come face to face with her snake fear, and now she can actually be in the room with them in the cages. She actually suggested making one of our spare unfinished rooms in to a reptile room, so I'm thinking she's opening up more to the idea of more animals.

Just don't push the idea on her too much, it makes parents irritated.

Ok, iv noticed she gets irretated when i talk about spending all my money on a snake. Also, ur damn lucky if ur geting a reptile room. My sisters going to college next year and i get her room with the walk in closet. So maybe I can just paint it(its pink) and keep them in there. ha, anyways, thanks for the help.

When i was younger (29 now) and living with mom, these are some of the things i said to convince her:
-some mothers would be grateful that their child was spending
money on apet instead of drugs/cigarrettes
    -snakes are clean and quiet
-take much less space than a dog
    -don't mess on the carpets
    -can deter burglars
-will teach you responsibility and compassion for living things
-cost much less per year to feed than a dog
Or, you could just sneak another in and hide it.....only kidding!!! =)

Re: convincing my mom (mothers, please read)

    LOL, this is funny.

MY son (8 years old) told me a month ago that he wanted to get a python.

My wife and I laughed at him, but told him that if he put together a proposal we would consider it serioulsy.

Well, as a responsible father I took it upon me to make sure that what comes back in his proposal was truth, and of course that meant I had to do some research myself. In the end I was convinced that getting a snake was a good deal and dropped a couple thousand down for my own snakes.

My son is still in the process of writing his proposal, but in truth, he won before he even started. Just don't tell him that though.. I still want him to do the work!

Sneaky of you Spencer (I have to say I admire that in a parent! LOL)

Our middle two kids, who are 14 and 12, asked for their own "personal" snakes. We went through a big thing with them about responsibilities, expectations and certain things they had to do to earn their own snakes. We also made sure they knew that as life changes down the road we will always be here to temporarily or permanently house their snakes.

So far Beth who is 12 has a lovely female albino nelson's milksnake named Emi and Luke will shortly adopt a nice baby BCI from a forum member here.
