    Unhappy Lot's of awful news.

well, i took my red-tail to the vet this past Saturday and my worries were confirmed, he's dying. I figured something was wrong because in the two months i had him he never shed or defecated.. at all! I noticed he was also really weak. The vet says he has some incurable viral infection.. i wasn't really paying attention i was too upset. So, i'm gonna make sure his last few days are happy ones. Poor little guy, He's just a baby..

Also, JUST NOW! literally, just now.. I was looking at my bp crawling around his cage in the dark and i hear this weird squeal noise kinda like a hamster or a guinea pig would make if startled and i see my bp like, almost convulsing. I rush over and turn on the light just in time to see him poo.. but it wasn't healthy stool. It was basically explosive diarrhea, no kidding, it rocketed out of him. Now, i've never seen my snakes do the "do" i've only had the pleasure of cleaning up the end result but you don't have to be a genius to know something's wrong with that situation..

    What do you guys think?

Ooh, but some good news i'm pretty sure i got rid of all my mites. (i had a terrible mite infestation not too long ago. My bp's looked disgusting. But now they're scales are shiny and their eyes are sparkling and they look healthy.)

Sorry to hear about your red-tail! I'm afraid I can't help with the other problem tho, I've never had that experiance before with my BP. Best of luck, but I'd get him to a vet.

I'm very sorry to hear about your beloved red tail, my thoughts will be with you.

I also agree with the others who have already replied, I'd get your ball to the vet to see what's going on. I can't remember, are Benson and Hedges housed separately so as not to pass infections to each other? If not, then both will probably need to be seen by the vet.

Wow, that's really rough. I'm so sorry to hear all of that. I wish there were something I could do to help.

I think you need to call your vet and get the name of that "incurable viral infection" - I wouldnt leave that detail just kind of drifting out there undefined. Especially if theres a chance it could pass to your other snakes. You might want to consider taking the whole lot to the vet.

    Re: Lot's of awful news.

As far as your ball python it doesn't matter what any of us "think", the reality is you need to contact your vet as soon as possible.

You have a serious issue going on in your collection with a "dying" redtail so you will need to know what to expect for that snake and what is the humane thing to do so the snake does not lay there and die inch by inch over days or weeks. The risks of transmission to the rest of your collection needs to be addressed as well as what is going on with your ball python as explosive loose stool is not in any way normal (I'm not a vet but that's only common sense).

Please never hesitate to phone your vet for guidance during any health emergency with any pet.

    Re: Lot's of awful news.

I have to agree with what the others are saying. You need to phone your vet and find out what this "incurable viral infection" is. You also need to start asking questions as far as if it can transfer from animal to animal in your collection. My biggest worry would be IBD b/c it can spread through and entire collection killing them all. How did he diagnose your boa as having some "incurable viral infection"? What were the tests done, if any? If he just looked at your snake and proclaimed it to have somthing incurable, I would be leary about the actual diagnosis. Maybe time to get another vets opinion?

Others have far better technical care advice than me (although vet pronto sounds pretty unanimous)...

But, oooh, /biiiig huuuug...I'm sorry to hear about your boa.

I hate bad news.. so sorry to hear about your BCI.

As the others said.. find out what's wrong with the boa! If it's something like IBD, your boa could infect and kill all of your other boids! I would just take everyone to the vet if possible.
