Question Just found a Mite in the water bowl

I've had my BP for 7 days now and last night it killed the mouse but didnt eat it. Just now I checked the humidity and temp to find a mite in the water bowl. My question is what do I do now? I know I have to dump its bedding and treat it with mite stuff but what is the best stuff and such.

Provent-a-mite is the best and you can get it from www.mgreptiles.com

Do I need to bleach all the tanks and all the hides or what do I use to wash out the tanks. I know to replace the bedding with paper towls. Oh by the way how do I tell the difference between ticks and mites. I never saw it crawling on my snake jsut showed up in the water bowl and its not really tiny either?

My ball got mites a few weeks ago. I used that product and it killed them SOOO fast. I didnt even have to remove my bedding. IT always keeps mites away for up to 30 days.

remove snake and water bowlspray into substrate and stir and then a little more. do the hide and tank items and let completly dry for awhile. then mites will die ultra quick when you put her back in

Yes letting your snake soak will drown the little pests.Make sure you leave enough room for the snake to have its head above the water line at all times. If you do not your snake could drown.Mites are real small and ticks look like the ticks do when your outdoors during the summer do.If you do see ticks be very carefull when you remove them as you can cause a infection in that spot.If you do remove put some neosporin on the area to prevent infection. Also if you do not feel sure of yourself doing this make a appointment at the vet.Make sure the vet is qualified with reptiles.Sounds like you bought a wild caught ball python.Good luck and keep us posted

Re: Just found a Mite in the water bowl

Provent -a- Mite is hands down the best way to kill mites and ticks on your ball python as well as any eggs that they may have laid. You also don't have to worry about infections from "pulling" ticks off if you use Provent -a- Mite.

Soaking is a mediocre temporary solution that will not kill mites within the cage or their eggs.

But don't take my word for it, give Bob Pound over at www.pro-products.com a call ... He created and manufactures Provent -a- Mite and has done more research into snake mites than probably most people on the planet ... He has a wealth of information to share and is a good guy!

Re: Just found a Mite in the water bowl

I was told it was cbb but now I seem to think its wild caught also. I have an appointment with a vet next week to make sure nothing else is wrong with it. I mean when I finally let it get adjusted and could check it out right there are thermal burns also on it that are healing up now though. I wonder if there is anyone I can report this jerk to for the care of the snake. Also it hasnt eaten for me and I was told it ate 4 days before I got it and its now been 8 days that I had it.

Soaking will help keep the population of adults down, you may also want to add a small amount of handsoap to the soak, that will break the surface tension around the adult mites and kill them faster. I'm talking like a small dot sized amount is all you need. Do that every couple of days until your Provent-a-mite comes. That stuff is the flippin shnizz.
