Black backs?

Do black backs have to be proven out to be considered "true" black backs? Because I found this male that is labeled as a black back. I mean his back is black, but it isn't like a stripe like I've seen others. I'm really interested in him because he's only $100. Is he not a true black back, just a nice patterned little guy?

For that price you are probably getting a normal with a nice pattern. If they are claiming it's a morph, I would ask to see the parents to see if it's been proven.

I don't know if that makes sense, I am starting to understand some of this morph stuff.

are you looking for a genetic blackback to breed or just want one with the looks? i too would think if he was genetic the breeders would tell you.

I might be inclined to buy him just because I loved his pattern. I just wanted to see if he was an actual black back or not. I think I remember seeing one black back that was quite expensive...

There are many different types of black backed ball pythons ... some are genetically reproducible, but most actually are not ... A male being sold for $100 is probably just a nice CH animal with all or some of it's back striped in black ... if you think he's a cool snake then go for it!

Two of the girls I'm going to be getting would probably be described as brown backs (or black backs), but more as a description, rather than as genetically prooven.


Would I like to reproduce these girls' looks? Absolutely! But I'm not sure if it will be a dinking project for me or not. I think I may have bigger plans for them with some hets.

Alright, thanks guys! If I did get a lil girly for him someday, maybe some of their offspring would have partial black backing. It could be interesting!
