Evolution of a Snake room

Hello, everyone that has been listening to my babble can take heart, the new snake room is nearly complete. By tomorrow it should be running smoothly.
I thought I would share the pics, but I will put links so dial-ups have it easy!

Before anyone makes the comment, no that is not a rat it is one of my prized yorkies. You can see a little bit of carpet there. Ick ick.

Here is the room after I cleared it totally, and painted the floor after ripping the carpet out.

Actually yes the dogs will be moved to the guest bathroom, but I still have to move a couple more things out, and also dismantle the pegboard rack as well. Then the dogs kennels move into there temporaily until the OTHER room gets done(junk room with a vengence)

Lokks pretty darn good.. Just nice to walk in a room and see all kinds of "drawers" to peek in and see the goodies inside..lol

That is sooo awesome! I'm so jealous, its lookin really good! My dream is to have a snake room some day! But first I have to get a house and thats a couple years off at least =(

just wondering, how bad does that room smell with all those rats/mice in there??? And how long does it take you to go through and clean all those racks... You must have some banker hours or somthing! jk

The room does not smell at all really. I change out the rat bedding once to twice a week, so they don't smell it up. The one bin that has 6 rats(leftover feeders) gets changed 3-4 times a week.
Cleaning all the racks takes about an hour or two. Three if I feed and weigh everyone at the same time. That is done on my day off, and I check everyone and everything and spot clean every day. I check each drawer at a minimum of twice a day. Every day, but that only takes about five or ten minutes.
I do things efficently, and I am good at figureing out the most efficent way to do things.
I work 5 days a week and sometimes don't get home until 7-8 pm so I wish I had banker's hours. LOL. I could spend more time with my snakes and rats. and dogs, etc etc.

Looks great, ill have to take pics of the room im turning into a snake room. Where did you get those racks?

The black ones are boaphile racks, but the white are from Nature's spirit called snake shaks. I prefer the white ones for several reasons.
Lighter in weight, the edges are curved(so you can stack easily), less$$, and they came in two weeks as opposed to a few monthes. Also the boaphile drawers stank so horribly bad when I opened them the first time that I was forced to open a window and retreat until they had aired for a while. I know that is a by product of the whole plastics process, but the Snake Shaks didn't smell that bad. As far as space reasons however the boaphile sort of comes out on top.
Ordered my themostats tonight, so hopefully soon I will have the racks all hooked up and will not be heating the room as much.
The snakes seem to be enjoying their new digs, with several getting shifted to larger bins, they seem active crawling about and investigateing. With 44, I did need to reorganize, as I did previously have some in rubbermaid totes stacked, which was not the easiest to work with in that tight space.
Now of course the really cool guest bath is a disaster area, with 2 racks not yet cleaned, and stuff everywhere and my homemade rack still in there as well. I kind of liked my guest bath being a snake room, ahhhh well, later it will be again, when I have hatchlings!!! LOL>
