Hello i was told today that a snake puts out a chemical or something everytime they shed and that could hurt a pregnant women well my wife is 3 months along and i don't want anything to hurt the two of them. Re: I was told
Its salmonella and it has nothing to do with the shed. When my ol lady was preg her OB told her to stay away from the reptiles during that time.. Also told her to not empty the litter box..SO that left me doing it..lol I honestly dont see the problem with it as long as you wash your hands and dont lick the animals or eat their poo....lol

Ummmm, no. I was around reptiles during both of my pregnancies, and you know what, I handled them daily, cleaned up after them daily, did all my normal activities but not the darn cat little box. The cat litter box actually could have caused a problem. In regards to all my reptiles I had at the time, after doing anything, I always washed up well. Really, thats the only precaution she would need to take. If you are that worried, than maybe she should just not touch any of the reptiles or deal with them in any way. Really it is all about good common sense, things you should be doing anyway.

Re: I was told
I would think common sense precautions would be sufficient. In my house, hand washing is mandatory before and after snake handling, water changing, cage cleaning, etc.
