Finches as food???
Has anyone ever heard of feeding a Ball Python a zebra finch????
I saw some pics of the Tree Boa eating a finch but they eat birds in the wild anyway!
Does anyone think a bird would have a weird effect on a BP??
Just asking because I figure a live mouse will do a lot more pain to my BP then a finch would!

Then you've obviously never been bit by a finch.
Ball pythons can be imprint feeders so unless you are prepared to feed your snake finches every week for the next 25 years or so, I wouldn't try it. Also remember that 1/2 of the birds perceived size is hollow feathers, so the large your snake gets the more finches it would need. And FWIW, when you feed boids foul, their excrement tends to be an awful smelling greasy mess ... not fun.
While there have been recorded instances of wild ball pythons eating birds, I doubt that you'll have a ton of luck feeding a captive ball python a finch ... the ball pythons shy nature coupled with the panicked flapping of a bird in a small enclosure probably won't go over too well for either animal.
If you have reservations about your snake getting bit by a mouse, don't feed live ... easy enough.

Re: Finches as food???
When you start feeding them birds thier crap stinks more from what I have read. Plus, a finch is a mighty expensive meal, I worked in a pet shop and those things were not cheap little birds. I would think you would have to feed several of those to make any kind of impact in feeding, and I wonder if getting a bp to eat something like that might actually be hard since it would be a prey item it probably has not ever seen before, therefor, it would not see it as such possibly. And Adam is right, they are nasty little boogers to get bit by.

Re: Finches as food???
No... it was just a weird question... I not planning to do that by the way! Just a stupid question!
and I have been breading Finches for a long time... Nuns and Zebras, and I've NEVER been bit by a little finch!
and if I did it might probably hurt but I can t see it drawing any blood!
but anyway! I just wanted to see what everyones opinion was!
Thanks

Re: Finches as food???
I wouldn't think that finches would be all that nutritious either. Just thinking of the calorie intake.
