What product to use to clean the cage, water bowl, etc.
Just wondering a couple things about cleaning your cage... I am getting an Animal Plastics T3 cage so it's made out of that plastic stuff. I need a cleaner that won't harm any of this stuff..
1.) How often should you replace the substrate (I'm using Aspen shavings)?
2.) How often should you clean down all the walls of the cage and floor?
3.) How often should you change the water and clean/disenfect the water bowl?
4.) Is there a product that you can use to clean all of this stuff effectively? or should you just use bleach or something other type of househould cleaner?
Thanks

hahaha .. wow ur are really over dominating this section with ur threads.
basiclly everything can be easily found with the search bar.. but im just going to pretend you dont know how to use it so here it goes.
-3 to 4 weeks (but clean up the poop as you see it)
-every 4 weeks or so (with a bleach solution, but there are plenty of other substances)
-on average 3 times a week.
-Bleach solution half a cup to a gallon or go on Mgreptiles.com there is a special formula.

Re: What product to use to clean the cage, water bowl, etc.
1) once a month at least completely replace the substrate.. pick out 'piles' as you see them.
2) once a month when you replace the substrate
3) I use disposable water dishes so I give them a new one with fresh water every week. If the snake fouls the water, disinfect the dish. Disinfect at least weekly.
4)bleach is nasty stuff.. go to mgreptiles.com and get chlorhexadine solution. The stuff is completely safe for animals and is a great disinfectant.

I guess I will get 16oz of that Chlorhexidine stuff from matt. Can I make up like a half gallon amount of that stuff, put it in a spray bottle and leave it in the spray bottle for months until I use it all up? or do you have to make a fresh batch EACH time you use it?

I use chlorhexadine solution as well.....and it will probably be time to order some more in a few weeks with all these new tubs to clean

Re: What product to use to clean the cage, water bowl, etc.
I use a product called Nolvasan-S ... It's the only EPA-registered chlorhexidine disinfectant, and works against at least 60 different bacteria, fungi, yeasts, and viruses. The "S" version of the product contains an EPA approved soap that makes it a better cleaner than straight chlorhexidine while still retaining it's powerful properties as a disinfectant.
I use paper and replace every single shred of bedding at least once a week.
Every cage floor, cage wall, hide box, water dish, etc gets washed at least once a week.
Every cage floor, cage wall, hide box, water dish, etc gets disinfected (very different than cleaning) at least once a quarter.
I make sure every animal has access to clean fresh water every day.

You can mix a bottle of chlorhexadine and use it up over months.. no need to mix it up fresh all the time.
