    Temp problem ..

Well.. Ive did pretty much what i could, im looking into another contoller or maybe a set of nice duals maybe johnsons or ranco. Basiclly whats going on is that the cool size ranges from 73- 77 cant get it higher today in the morning it was at 73 i decided to put aluminum foil from under the flexwatt stretching across the plastic container (hoping it might help) I also have the lower portion of the container wrapped in my sweat pants and the whole set up is sitting on a warm sweater. I can currently seeing the temps going up slowly now at 75.5 on the far coldest end. Im considering going with another container that has more floor space because i kinda messed up with the one i have now. Its way too small after everything was put in it. So she doesnt really have much floor space, do you think i should just let her sit this week out in this one and then get a larger one? also in regards to the temp. what do you guys recommend? and i dont understand how you guys feed them .. i feel like such a murderer! i have 2 baby mice and i feel so bad you have no idea. Im going to try to raise them because i cant just kill them.

can you describe your setup a little more. what size cage? what kind of heat? how many watts? what kind of thermostat? and what is the temp in the area/room that the snake is in? what are the hot side temps?

oh boy ... maybe getting a snake as a pet wasn't the best idea?

    Re: Temp problem ..

ok well i went to the expo last night and got most of the supplies.. Although I regret getting some of the stuff, just because i could of got a better offer online with matt. No one sold any good thermostats so i had to settle for the next best thing. I have a ESU controller the little on/off plastic BS ! controling a foot of flexwatt. The container itself is around 16 x 12 x 12, 1/3 is occupied by the flexwatt the controller is set to 92. I have a Flukers dig. thermometer and hydrometer inside and on the far cool side i have a ESU dig thermometer w/ probe. The probe is placed right on the substrate all the way by the wall and the other probe from the BS thermostat is placed also touching the substrate. 2 Plastic ESU hides and a water bowl. I miss judged the floor space and as it turns out the accessories occupy way to much space. Im considering ordering a Exo-terra UTH 11" x 10" and another ESU controller. I have the other container picked out already its going to be 22 x 12 x 6, im hoping to get it after the settling it period.

the room temp. ranges from 70-75 depending on if i turn on my heater or not. The humidity is good i know how to control it for the most part .. 50-60 perfect imo. the Temp im having difficulty with since i dont have anything reading the Hot side, im totally relying on the control unit probe. The cool side therm seems to be reading 75.6 and the dig thermometer/hydrometer inside is reading .4 more 76.0.

    Re: Temp problem ..

sounds like the basics are covered. is the top a screen top? this could let out alot of heat. going to a 6" high tub will heat better vs a 12" high one. the one ft. piece of flex should heat that tub. i would try a little space heater in your room and bump up the ambient room temps some. my guess is that the low room temps are robbing your setup of it's heat. the cost of another esu stat and heat pad might be the same as a johnsons or ranco? i would try the new tub first, because if it's 6" high that might help alot.

ps. on the aspen, don't make it too deep 1/2 to 1 inch is fine.

    Re: Temp problem ..

well she spent all night in her hide in on the hotter side of the viv. Im guessing with the controller set at 93 the temps in the vivs hot side hide are around 90 (well at least im hoping) considering the temps in the room are low and the ambient temp in the middle of the viv are reading 76. Do you think it will be ok for me to go get that plastic shoe box today and make the switch?

    Re: Temp problem ..

i would go to walmart/target and get a 6" high tub. getting the temps right will probably lower stress rather than keeping it at low temps. your setup looks fine, just copy that in a smaller tub. a foot of flex should heat a small tub no problems. babies actually like small tubs and hides.

    Re: Temp problem ..

i placed the dig thermometer on the hot side the belly heat temp are reading very high 98.5 im in a way making up for the cold cooler side .. trying to avoid any RI .. i know i should of done this earlier but better late then never. This should give me enough time to get the plastic container today and i should recieve the other controller and heat mat by wed this week. Do you think i should of gave it a light bath before i put the snake in its new enclosure after all it was sitting all day in a tight little container at the expo?
