Unfortunate news regarding the ball python I was going to adopt

Some back story. I work for an animal shelter as a kennel tech. Last month we got in 3 ball pythons from an abandonment case. They were abandoned in a shed with no heat or food for over a month. Two of those pythons have since been adopted and I was waiting to adopt the third. The third python was having intermittent wheezing. Her appetite was good and she seemed otherwise healthy. The vet tested her for a few respiratory illnesses, and she was negative for all of them. They put her on a course of injectable antibiotic just in case. I ordered her enclosure from Zen Habitats and I'm waiting for them to ship it, but I just got the call from my boss that they tested her for IBD and she tested positive. They are reaching out to the other two people that adopted the other two to see about testing them as well.

I'm so sorry. Better to find out now rather than after you brought her home.

Yes, that's sad, but be glad you dodged that ordeal. Poor snakes- but if you check around, there are a number of ball pythons being kept by various rescues that you could adopt instead. All the best.

Hopefully those other two ball pythons that were adopted out did not go to homes with large collections.

The other two were also tested and came back negative. They will be retested in 6 months just to make sure. And those two both went to people without large collections. I'm not sure about one, but the other has no other reptiles. Interestingly enough, not long after the ball python I was going to adopt was euthanized, my shelter got in another ball python. (enclosures and such were cleaned heavily and disinfected and this new snake went into a completely different enclosure) After her stray hold, I adopted her. I plan to have her tested just to be on the safe side but for now I have her housed in a 4x2x2. I'll post a picture of her when I get a moment.
