everyones views on MGreptile Tub combo for a BP...

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the TUB Package offered by MG reptiles. If yes.. than how did it turn out and what package did you get and what are your basic thoughts on it. If no than do you think its worth getting and your opinion.??

I would recommend Package One. That's going to have everything---except bedding---that you're going to need. If you use any type of heating device, you're going to need a thermostat, and these packages come with it all. The tubs should be plenty big enough for an adult BP. I believe they can hold adult male boas.

Re: everyones views on MGreptile Tub combo for a BP...

Ok im tired of spending countless nights researching... Im not sure what to do anymore, because im still facing the same problem Tank or Plastic? I want to create the best environment possible for my future ball and im just lost in my notes...

Since in my previous post ive stated that I think it will be difficult to maintain constant necessary temps. due to my location (NYC) esp considering its winter. I dont know how a single UTH that takes up 1/3 of the floor space will heat the whole enclosure meanwhile creating a hot spot of 92 and a cool side of 82 give or take. Is heat normally transmitted that way? So i started looking into dual thermostat (found a dual habistat on ebay) for around 60 shipped, im not sure if im going to be needing a dual but lets leave it as just in case. Another problem was the UV lighting .. major question Do i need any form of lighting? Because i never seen any plastic vivs with lighting and the MG packages dont offer anything but claim to be a perfect package for a ball.
Yet I know that Flourescent light daily cycles can prevent the common Off feed.

This is how I envisioned the tank set up (i might be over doing it)
    20G tank
Dual Fixture Hood (Sun glow, IR)
Dig. Thermometer/Hydrometer (to measure the air)
2 probe thermometer (one for cool one for hot)
Dual Thermostat for both UTH (to regulate the cool side and for the other to adj. to the Light in the Basking spot)
Timer (10 on 14 off cycle considering its winter)
.. i think thats about it

Hopefully ill get some knowledgeable feedback soon...with maybe some helpfull recommendations in regards to the whole set up.

I have my first Snake right now. i got the cheapest thermostat from mgreptiles. i don't think he would sell if if it was junk. i got a uth from him also. i wish i would have saved the money and got the flexwatt instead of the one i got. i went to walmart and got a plastic tub and biglots for the hides and water bowl. i didn't spend alot on that stuff. the snake cost as much as the setup. now I'm building a rack and spent $2000 on 4 snakes all in 2 months time. i would have to say temps aren't a problem for me and I'm in Ohio. temp here is 30 deg we have cold winters and warm summers. my house is kept at 72 deg and everything is fine. the snake is growing like a weed. its my first snake and its easy to take care of. relax and buy the basics.

There's really no need for the Sunglow bulb. BPs only come out at night and therefore aren't dependent on UV light of any kind. If you want to go with a light, I would stick with a stronger wattage red bulb. Remember, however, with a bulb, the cage is going to dry out much quicker than it would with belly heat, and you're going to have to spray down your snake a couple times a day---I would also invest in a hygrometer to measure your humidity.

Honestly, I think it would be cheaper to go with the tub and thermostat than it would to get the whole dual light system. Just remember this: unfortunately, when it comes to thermostats, the more you spend, the safer your snake's going to be.

Well this is what MG Reptiles suggests....Aquariums are one of the hardest forms of caging to heat unless you have a dedicated room that is maintained to 80-85 degrees all the time.. Light bulbs for heating should be left to McDonalds to keep their burgers warm.. You need some type of belly heat to allow the animal to lay on.. Using a bulb to raise the ambient temps is perfectly fine but they do poorly on thermostats because of the super fragile element inside the bulb.. You will spend alot more on replacing bulbs in the ling run then if you had bought the correct setup the first time around..

Ball pythons do not require lighting, UV included.. As long as there is light in the room where the cage will be, your good to go(bright lighting will throw the animal off feed if left on 24/7).. The tub packages are indeed complete(not a claim, it is a fact).. They come with everything you need to mainatin your heating for your animal and to monitor the temps.. We do not include all the pretties because everyones taste is different(water bowls, etc)..

As far as a choice of thermostat that depends on your wallet and what you nee the thermostat to do for you.. If you need it to control the temps and keep flames out of your house then a Johnsons or Ranco is perfectly fine.. If you need one to do the above and have acess to a night drop then a herpstat is what I woudl recommend..

Ok i am going back to the cage now..lol....

i was waiting for a response of that sort, esp. from someone who actually knows what hes talking about. Thank a lot. I was just slightly curious do u think it will be ok to put a 2.0 fluorescent in an enclosure thats around 7" in hight? .. i have these plastic shelves (im going to get some pictures to get everyones opinion on it) im thinking of using one of the shelves for the enclosure. Top that covers the shelf is wooden so im thinking of bolting on a fluorescent fixture thats about 8" long or so just to be able to regulate light and have it set on a timer. I was wondering if it can burn if the bulb is running 10 hr straight, or if the intensity of the light being so close will harm the snake? I was also considering flipping the top bin over creating more hight in the enclosure. The hight would be around 16" if i was to proceed with the plan.
