    PVC perch

    Hello all.
I am in the process of setting up a tank for an ATB (not yet aquired).
I am making perches for him at the moment.
Here is a pic of my first perch, this is just a tester and I wanted to get some opinions.

It is torched PVC coated with Minwax Polyurethane.

My first question is will the polyurethane dry completely on PVC seeing as it is not as porous as wood?

My second question is will the polyurethane be safe for the snake?

Third but not least what do you think about running a heat rope through one of the PVC perches to create a "warm perch"?

    Re: PVC perch

i think the polyurethane should dry on anything given enough time to cure (usually 24-48 hours) though i can't recall having on used it myself on any non-porous surface before. it should be totally safe and non-toxic (it is the water based latex kind right?). i use it to seal bamboo perches in all of my crested gecko cages.

does the torching change the surface of the pvc? pre-torching it doesn't really need to be sealed at all.

    Re: PVC perch

hmmm looking at the ingredients it looks like I have oil based... Ill have to go get some latex based... Thank you.

Torching the PVC made it a bit dry and gritty, I also dont want burnt pvc rubbing off on the snake so I figured better safe then sorry.
