    FedEx holiday schedule!

I just found out (and luckily I checked) that Fedex Express is closed on Monday, 12/26 and Monday, 1/2. Please do not ship live animals on these days as it will take 2 days for them to arrive at their destination. I had no clue that they would be closed on the day after legal holidays but I guess its because those holidays are both falling on a Sunday this year. Here is a link to the schedule: http://www.fedex.com/us/holiday/holidayschedule.html

Yup ... got a call from my FedEx rep at the beginning of the month. FedEx is also in "red" status this week and next which means that they can leave packages without signatures (basically just "knock and drop"). This is FedEx's busiest time of the year and if something bad is going to happen with a live reptile shipment, it's likely to be now. Better to just wait until after the 1st of the year or ship air cargo (I was just over at Delta yesterday and things are running very smoothly!).

US Air, NorthWest, and a few other airlines will ship without "certification". you just have to call around ... Also, some Delta cargo offices have been known to accept live animal shipments without the certification if you show up in person, very early, and know exactly which flight you want.

If you're going to breed and sell animals ... become an EXPERT at all things related to shipping!

    Re: FedEx holiday schedule!

US Air quit shipping as of October 1. They merged with America West and took on their policies on animal shipments. Unfortunately the rest appear to charge warm blooded rates which can be $200+. Its insane really! I will certainly get everything organized and ready after my move. I might need some more tips from you on other things breeding/selling related...

Maybe you're talking to the wrong people? I shipped US Air a couple of weeks ago and last week shipped NorthWest to Detroit for around $80?? Not sure what the difference is, but if there's anything I can do to help let me know.

    Re: FedEx holiday schedule!

Thats interesting. I shipped with them the last week of October I believe. Here is what their site says:

Live animals will no longer be accepted for travel as checked baggage or cargo. US Airways will make an exception for ticketed reservations made before August 17, 2005, to carry pets as checked baggage, which will be honored through November 1, 2005. The policy change does not apply to the transportation of service animals.

As far as Northwest, when I was researching prices, the best they gave me was their warm blooded rate which was around $252.

Don't know what to tell you. NorthWest certainly has a cold-blooded rate and US Air hasn't told me no yet. You talked to people at the live animal desks?

    Re: FedEx holiday schedule!

Yup. Their policies are very odd. Everyone gives you a different answer. We had a major problem with US Air last time as well. The woman completely abused my sister when she brought the snake to the airport. Told her she wouldnt even speak to her unless the sealed box containing the snake was out of her sight. We had to fight to get the snake on the flight. I'll check with Northwest though. Its nice to have options other than FedEx. Thanks Adam!
