    Hi worried about baby

Semi newbie here. Had a BP 10 years ago but my baby now is acting goofy. He's in a 20 long, heat mat, thermoregulated, ambient temps bout 80, has2 hides plus a a moise hide with moss i mist , and for some reason he NEVER Stays inside his hides, he always digs into the aspen bedding around his water bowl or near his cool side hide. The hot side is 90. Is this normal?

His cool hide is a USPS flat rate small box, wrapped in silver heat wrapping, my leopard gecko loves it lol.

If a snake doesn't use their hides, it indicates they don't suit their needs. Just because your leopard gecko likes that type of hide, doesn't mean your snake will. Re-think what you're offering him, & both warm & cool side hides should match, to ensure he's choosing the temperatures he needs rather than just a preference for the type of hide that's available.

I'd also make sure you're taking the temperatures accurately, because his behavior (choice of locations) suggests he's too warm, unless this has only been recent & maybe he's going into a shed cycle.

I think that hide is too big for him right now. Something about half that size would be more appropriate. Do you have something about the size of a check box? They like to have their bodies touching the sides and back of the hide.

Why is the water blue out of curiosity? Some kind of supplement?

I might be wrong, but I overlooked that because I've had a few ceramic bowls in the past that were a natural (tan) color outside while the inside of the bowl was blue- just the design & made the water resemble a pool.

I might be looking too hard at it, but would love OP to confirm that that's the case. To me it almost looks like there's WAY too much of that Retisafe water conditioner in it.
