Wanting to switch terrariums- glass is a little much

Hello everyone!

I’d like to switch Dewey into an enclosure easier to maintain for his petsitter when I go off to college, because in the years that I’ve owned him his glass exo-terra has been quite the struggle in terms of heat and humidity (you live n you learn). I know that PVC and wooden viv enclosures are a thing, but does anybody have any other suggestions or specific PVC/viv recommendations? Not really looking for a tub, I like to display my terrariums.

Might help a lot with keeping humidity / heat in instead of the screen tops (I have foil on them). Should have them on Friday.

This might help without changing enclosures, I also have some AP (Animal Plastics) Enclosures on order but don't have them yet.

I’ve never had any issues with glass enclosures and I’ve kept boas, colubrids, and pythons in them. Nevertheless I LOVE my Animal Plastics pvc enclosures. I’m transitioning all my critters to them.

I'd say go for Animal Plastics PVC enclosure but I doubt you would get it before you left for college. That's probably the case with any brands right now. I'd go to a local reptile shop and see what you can pick up that is already in stock.

My dad keeps my house very cold and very dry . I’d like to spare myself the expense if I can though (it’s also not a necessity, he’s healthy as is, just trying to prevent that from changing), do you have any tips maybe for maintaining the right conditions in glass? Maybe i’m missing something. The heat is easy enough, it’s really just the humidity that gives me a hard time.

If you got your Exo-Terra new and it came with the foam background in it, I found they do make 18x18 background pieces for the sides too.

They are hard to find but I have picked up a couple, That will help insulated the glass from the inside with out taking up a lot of enclosure space

Might just give you enough extra being you replaced the screen top too.

I use a ceramic heat emitter to boost my ambient temps during the winter or I’ll add an electric heater to the snake room. I really don’t pay much attention to the humidity inside my enclosures but it ranges from 30-60% depending on the season. I use Reptichip for my substrate and it holds humidity pretty well. I might dump the water bowl into the bedding if I see a snake prepping to shed but that’s the most I’ll do. You can also add a humid hide when they’re shedding. As long as they have access to fresh food, water, and a proper thermal gradient ambient humidity should be just fine.
