    Ohhhh the ignorance...

I commute to Boston every day to go to school. About a week ago, as I was getting off the train to go home, the conductor that was working that day said "nice snake!" (referring to my necklace.) He proceeded to yell after me that we should talk snakes sometime as I was walking to my car. Ok, sounds pretty cool; someone who keeps snakes. I smiled and waved to be polite. Anyhow, he was working today so I tried to avoid eye contact while he was taking tickets (I HATE being hit on, ugh) and about a stop away from where I get off, he sat down in the seat across the aisle from me and asked how my snake was. I started to tell him about how I have a ball python, but when I asked what kind of snake or snakes he kept he got this dumbfounded look and said "uhhh aaa- - llbino python... I don't know, it's yellow and white." I responded with "You don't know what kind of snake you have??" He leaned back trying to look cool and said "Oh no, I'm not into it that way, I just like it because it's different!"

Freakin' AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Holy frustration... luckily it was time to get off so I hurried off the train, and while doing so said "I hope you know that thing can grow to be 200 pounds and I hope you're willing to care for it!" I faintly heard "Do you want to take it?" as the train pulled away. Maybe the next time he's working I can convince him to read up on Burms...

Geez.. wonderful. I can't think of anything else it would be other than an albino burm..

Moving this to general herp though, as that's where it belongs.

    Re: Ohhhh the ignorance...

I would expect it to be an albino burm. Albino ball python's are not really in the price range for somebody who wants a snake becuase it's cool.

    Re: Ohhhh the ignorance...

I assume it must be a burm because they're all over the place and relatively inexpensive... perfect for an impulse buyer. Next time I see him I'll ask him more about where he got it/how he's taking care of it. Maybe I can help him find a new home for it, he seemed kinda scared at the thought of a python that has the potential to weigh more than he does.

I'll bet anyone 100 bucks that he's gonna tell me "But it will only grow to the size of its cage!!" Can't tell you how many times I've heard that one, as I'm sure you all have

Exactly.. if you want a pretty yellow snake and don't care what it is.. an albino burm is what you're going to get.

    Re: Ohhhh the ignorance...

That's so terrible...-__-; People need to figure out that NO animal is a toy, and that ignorant decisions like that will always lead to unforseen problems. It'd almost be worth it to see those people learn that the hard way, but it's the animal that always ends up suffering in the end, and some jerks just never learn....very sad...

OR perhaps he doesn't have a snake but wanted to pick you up with the line "let's talk snakes"...

and albine python was the first thing that popped into his mind.

I hope so, lol. That would be good if that were the case, but ya never know. I've heard cheezier lines than that from people, some examples being:

"Are you from around here? Oh, you're not... you gave me your number last night but I lost it, can I have it again?" (what the...??)
"Oh neat, you made that sign? Is that your home number or your cell? That means I can call it and ask you out to dinner?"
And my favorite, (from the same guy as the one asking about my sign--as I'm putting the sign back in my backseat) "This is a nice car, I think I've seen it around town. Can I take you out to dinner?" (eehhh, what?)

Anyhow, I printed out the burm caresheet from this site and plan on keeping it in my bag so I can hand it to him next time I see him. I'll keep you updated...
