I'm trying to find the best way to describe these scales, and deformed is the best I can manage. While enjoying a little quality time with my boy tonight I noticed some "creaking" noises when he made some tight turns with the last little bit of his body. I had a look at his belly and I noticed these three scales that seem to be puffed up or as if they had been puffed up at some point ever so slightly. I've taken a picture here: https://imgur.com/a/m0EDjcE for reference. It's not incredibly noticeable in all postures, but when he bends to show his belly like in the picture, you can see a difference in these scales.
I'm hoping someone has any idea of what this might be?
My husbandry as best as I can describe it:
- Coconut fiber substrate hydrated when needed with some misting as it gets closer to drying. I try my best to keep it close to 60% humidity measured digitally, though misting brings this number up to 80 or 90 for a brief period (a few hours) before it settles back down. I always make sure that he isn't resting on substrate that's too damp.
- UTH set to 88F controlled digitally via probe. Middle temp CHE closer to the hot side set to 80 also controlled via probe giving the cool side roughly 75 during the day. Nights are a little cooler as my house cools.
- He spends most of his time in his warm hide during the day and coils down a little, but has never made it so far as to rest directly on the glass with the UTH.
- Feeding every 7 days no with issues unless he's shedding.
I don't see any other signs of burns, scale rot, etc. from what I know of them.
As well (sorry for shoving these in the same thread), a while ago I did notice a small "scrape" on the top of his head about one scale in size which has since healed, though his head has been dry-looking in spots if that makes sense. Here's a picture that sorta shows it: https://imgur.com/a/6da1rcT .
I don't believe these two are related, but any advice on either matter would be helpful.
