i used to have a leopard gecko who was truley amazing and i fed all sorts of small insects and varied meals and now am soon to be gretting a Ball Python and was wondering if theres anything unusual or different that you feed yours apart from mice and rats ?

Re: i wonder ???
Some people feed other rodents such as hamsters and gerbils....but you definately dont want a ball python with a taste for $10.00 hamsters They will also eat quail or chicks....but that really makes their poop nasty....
...stick with mice or rats

Re: i wonder ???
There's a couple members, where mice and rats aren't easily available and offer hamsters and gerbils. Just be wary if you try and offer other type of rodents. You don't want a snake that decides hey that's waaayyyy better...I'll just hold out til I get some more of that. There's no reason that you need to offer a varied diet. They do just fine on the mice or rats.

Re: i wonder ???
Just keep in mind that ball pythons (unlike geckos) tend to be "imprint feeders" meaning that once they start on a particular type of prey, it can be difficult to get them to take anything else .... it wouldn't be a lot of fun to feed your ball python a $10.00 hamster to see if it will eat one and then go on to realize that for the next 25 years, hamsters are the only thing it will eat.

Re: i wonder ???
Is the online herp forum world got such a bad reputation that a newcomer is worried about being picked on for asking a question. That's sad!
Hope you got some good answers to your question and feel welcome here. If it's not about sharing knowledge or experience, good natured debate or asking questions (as well as a bit of good fun mixed in of course LOL), then it's not about much at all in my lil ole opinion.
Stick around, ask questions please, it's a pretty cool place to learn and get to know other snake crazy folks!
