Male Ball Python keeps escaping

He's been like this since he was a baby. I keep him in the same conditions as his brother of the same clutch, and the other ball pythons, but he keeps escaping, particularly during copulation season, I should say, which is June-July for him--for some reason for him. He deems it as such.

I put him into a rack system, the same hide, the same water bowl, on Forest Floor, humidity is currently 50 and 95 degrees F He's in a 36x12 inch tub. I raised it from 90 degrees because the vet said to, and he had an RI, but now he's recovered, he's more rambunctious than ever.


His mother enjoys being out too... so wondering if it's a genetic thing. She acts more like a boa... from what I know of boas. She knocks over her water bowl, which is massive, BTW, (It's dry where I live and it gets hot, too... so it helps thermoregulate) when she deems it needs to be cleaned and changed. And she likes to come out to greet the sun every day. She'll come and tell me when she wants to be picked up, doesn't let me put her back inside (like every other ball python I have, except her son) and likes to explore. I don't know about ball pythons being absolute rocks with her. The only time she's not like that is when she's gravid or digesting food. I tried to put a branch in with her, to give her interest, but doesn't like it. Likes climbing everything else though. She has a 40 gallon with a locking lid or she'd escape too.


So far, I put him into a rack system, with locking lids, but then he figured out how to pop the locking lids of the container. So I put on textbooks on top of said locking lids. He figure out how to pop the locking lids with the textbooks. So I distributed the locking lids with the textbooks. By chance I forget, sometimes he'll comes in the middle of the night, periscope at me and go, "Hello! Did you forget me?" or knock something over when he wants to go back to his warm spot. I know people say that snakes are dumb, etc, but yeah...

I raised him from his egg.

So, is there a way to make him happier and keep him inside? I think sometimes he's bored in there.
