    BP Substrate Preference

This might be really stupid, but does your BP have a substrate preference?

I switched my BP to a more natural setup with eco earth as the substrate. He went off feed since then. I assumed it was because I went up a size in rat. Well 2 months later, and he still wasn't eating. I did a routine tank cleaning and didn't have enough eco earth this time, but had a bag of Aspen. Put that in. He ate 2 days later and has been acting so much better! The only thing that changed was the substrate. Does this sound like a real thing or just a coincidence?

It might be a coincidence or that something else changed in the environment to make him more comfortable, or it could also be that your BP is more familiar with aspen so he feels more secure when you use that substrate.

I know that my BP hates paper towel as a substrate. I originally had cypress mulch set up in my BP's tub when I first brought him home but ended up switching to paper towel a few days later so I could monitor his health better as he adjusted to his new home. Turned out he hated paper towel and refused to touch it, he found a way to climb up the side of his tub and hang on the edge to avoid it and even slept on top of his hide that night. The next day I switched back the cypress mulch and everything went back to normal. I do believe it's possible for them to have a preference!
