    Buying rat pups

I've been feeding my Ball f/t fuzzy rats. But she's large enough now to start eating pups. I looked around at all my local pet stores and the only frozen rodent options they had for rats were small, medium, and large. One store also had jumbo rats. Meanwhile they have basically all sizes of mouse available. I finally found a store that sold frozen rat pups. I bought one. But when I took it home and weighed it, it actually weighed less, or the same, as many of the fuzzies I already have (being 19g. I have several fuzzies that are in the 20-25g range).

I'm assuming she either sold me the wrong thing or gave me the runt of their supply. But if not, is there anywhere that I can order frozen rodents online?

I can't vouch for any of them, however i'm sure you'll hear positive things about Big Cheese Rodent Factory and Perfect Prey.

Big Cheese is good. I use them and so far no issues. Flat fee shipping fee. However, some sized may run out but they will restock in a few days. I also tried Perfect Prey. First shipment and there was a problem with the packaging where 1 tray was thawed upon arrival. They were quick to respond and send out a replacement. Sizes are more available but pricing and shipping cost more.

Fyi, I don't trust the staff to pick out my rodent, live or not. I had been sold a small mouse just to find it is a hopper. Check the size before the purchase. Ask if you can pick the size you are looking for. If they get offended, let them be, it is your money and your snake that you are feeding.

The last rat pups I got from Perfect Prey weighed from 22g to 30g each.

Their website states they weigh from 20g to 29g each.

I also use perfect prey. I have ordered rats and mice from them of various sizes and they have always been in the advertised weight range.

I used to use Perfect Prey exclusively and was very happy. I appreciate that you can order smaller quantities from Perfect Prey, in addition to bulk. Shipping with them varies depending on where you live and can get quite expensive.

Once we moved, using Perfect Prey was no longer cost effective because of the increase in shipping. We now use Big Cheese, and I'm just as happy with the quality and packaging of their rodents. Shipping is a flat $29, which is awesome.

In my experience you can't go wrong with either company.

I've used Perfect Prey and Big Cheese and am happy with both. It may come down to where you're located and shipping costs. But you can't go wrong with either.

I use Layne Labs, though in the past I used Perfect Prey. They were fine, but I prefer Layne. Their rodents always weigh within the range specified on their website; they've never been out of any size I needed; the rodents are immaculately clean and packed in freezer bags of sturdier material than plastic. Each one is individually flash frozen and they tuck tail and legs neatly under the animal, so you don't get 'rat bricks' to hack apart. and you can order in quantities as low as 10. They're also pretty fanatic about their 'humane handling policy', which I appreciate.

If you order before 2pm Tuesday you’ll get your order that same week. I’ve used them a few times and they’re great.
