mat-stat died snake burned help

ok ive just found that the mat-stat has broken on one of my vivs and my bp has been laying on the heatmatand has a burn on his belly. my nearest herp vet is over an hour away and i have no transport to get there any way.... can anyone tell me a way to treat him??

Burns can be the result of coming into contact with a "high-heat" device such as any light bulb, CHE, or spot light. The first sign of a burn is that the skin looks hard and stiff in the area of the burn. The skin will remain this way for several days. Then the skin will completely come off the burnt area, either with a shed or by movement of the boa. This will leave a RAW exposed area that often will bleed.

You should treat the burn area immediately with Polysporin, even before the skin comes off.
Clean burned area with a 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water solution. Use a swab to clean the area.
Apply Polysporin or Neosporin to the affected area twice a day.

Consult your veterinarian as soon as possible

Sorry... copied from a care guide. Also, make sure you get a decent thermostat or dimmer for your heater. Check the heater too... may need a new one of those.

ok any more suggestions cuz i cant get hold of any of them things. ive just given him a warm savlon antiseptic bath and then put antibacterial cream on the area

Probably a UK based product. What about taking a train or a cab to see the vet?

A mat-stat is a thermostat for heat mats made by a European company called Habistat. They make a variety of heaters and thermostats for vivs, and are the only brand of thermostats I've seen in petshops in Ireland at least. Here's their homepage: www.habistat.net

I'm a licensed vet tech, and you really should not use peroxide on any new tissue-it just destroys it. Chlorohexadine or Povidone Iodine is better and kinder to tissues.

Silvadine cream is excellent but it is RX only. You should see a vet since there may be more internal burns than what you see on the outside.
