    Odd Bevahior?

So, my new rescued ball python Finally ate for me today! (I’m so overjoyed).

However, as he/she was eating - he had this weird little head wobble thing going on. I’m not sure if it’s due to how he struck at the pinky, and how it ended up in his mouth, or not, but it was very unusual and something I haven’t seen before. I do have a video but I’m not sure how to post on here? So if someone can tell me how to do that, I can add the video to better show what he did.

I just want to know if I have to be concerned at all because my other BPs don’t exhibit the same behavior when eating.

Edit: to my knowledge, there is no spider gene and from what I know, this would be 1st or second meal as of hatching.

I have two bps and they have both wobbled while eating at times. I chalked it up to a muscle cramp type spasm. They don't do it every time. It's more like they get a link in their neck from constricting. Mine are young, 8 and 15 months. Hope this helps. Some one with older snakes may shed more light on this as they may out grow it.

Congrats on getting your new snake to eat for you already, yay!

Without seeing the "head wobble" I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but it occurs to me that maybe your BP was extending his head & neck vertically while swallowing?
If so, that might explain the wobble: snakes (& especially young snakes) don't have a lot of vertical muscle strength in their neck, but I've seen snakes do this now & then.
If that's not what yours did, we'll need a video...

I've chalked it up to the prey item being pretty small. I didn't want to overload his system with a large meal, so I fed a pinky. I think because he grabbed it and took at the corner of his mouth, (literally the farthest corner of his mouth) it was his way of getting it into the mouth correctly, along with the fact he is still kind of weak, not terribly so, but still malnourished. I am feeding him again tomorrow, so I'll see if it happens again.

(I'm going to give a link to the video anyway)

That is WAAAY too small. I would be willing to bet you will have the same issue next time feeding him a meal of that size. Ditch the pinkies and give the animal an appropriate sized meal.
