sexing ?????????
ok i aint paying £18 per snake to have them sexed,so can anybody reccomend the best way to sex my 6 royals, ie popping or comparing spurs,i can post pics if anyone can do it for me or could anybody post pix of them doing it?

Forget comparing spurs, it's too variable.
Popping really works best on young snakes.. probing is better on older ones. I would go to the vet, pay the £18 once, and have them show you how to do it.

I went to a reptile show last saturday and had 2 diffrent guys show me how to tell before i bought my first snake there.

all of my bs's are under 2 years old ive popped the snakes and they all appear female appart from the oldest(22months) is considderabley different who appears to be male. Im sure ive seen a site that describes the way you can do it just cant remember the URL.

When you're popping something more than a few months old, it can be easy to mis-sex them as female because the retractor muscles the males have to keep the hemipenes in place are stronger.

Plus, after a few months their "socks" are longer and more intact into their tail, which means you will most probably never get a true reading.

Actually, ball pythons can be popped accurately at any age if you know what you're doing ... for beginners it can be tricky.
I would suggest having someone with a little bit of experience show you how to do it at first and then practice on your own until you get the "feel" of it.
