Cement mixing tubs for BP?
So I have several DIY rodent racks that use the cement mixing tubs from Home Depot/Lowes and they work great. I have been thinking about building a snake rack to up my snake capacity and was thinking about these tubs. Could I, theoretically, put ball pythons into these tubs? They measure 28" x 20" and are all black tubs. I'm thinking of building a rack similar to a rodent rack but instead of a screen top I would use something like sanded plywood or acrylic sheets. With UTH or heat tape on the bottom I can't think of any reason this would not work. If I did acrylic on top I could still see through the tank and give them a little day/night cycle but I've read that's not super important.
What do you all think? Am I missing something here?

Some rack systems remind me of that.
28" x 20" seems a little small.
If you decide to take a shot at building one, let us know how it works out!

It's been done, also with those dimensions you are looking at housing males or females up to 2000 grams, larger females will need larger tubs.

While I don't like racks for snakes I understand breeders are in it for money. So it's stack them high. Using black mixing tubs would be wrong. You can find tubs bigger an cheaper that are translucent. You want to see the snake somewhat.
Go to Lowes or Home Depo an take a look.

Not all breeders are in it for money. Racks are used because there is no better way to meet the animals requirement and keep them happy and stress free. While translucent is nice for the keeper, it is not better for the animal, actually the opposite. I've made racks with the home depot stuff and they can work, still use them for some of my males, the quality rack systems on the market are 100 times better. I use ARS and yes they are expensive, but they work extremely well and they allow you to keep many animals in a small area meeting all their requirements perfectly resulting in very healthy stress free animals.
