all other things being equal, which will allow for higher temperatures? Repti-bark or aspen bedding?

I would tend to think the aspen may insulate and hold heat better but the reptibark holds the moisture more.

We use aspen so all I can say is aspen is working great for us as far as heat retention, moisture and easy of spot cleaning. My only comment is that with my larger, heavier females they do tend to mat down the aspen somewhat and I find finger fluffing it up as I do their normal cage maintenance helps it have more air pockets which allow the heat to move through that substrate more efficiently.

Dang it!! Now that I have a use for all that paper my husband used to bring home, I don't have access to it!! I might have to make him go back to working in the paper mills, just so I get some more.
